Dear All Structural Engineers / Civil Engineers / Concrete Technologists /
Geotechnical Engineers and all related,

On 29th November'03 American Concrete Institute's - India Chapter (which is
consistently weighted as 'Best' and 'Outstanding Chapter') successfully
conducted on one day National seminar in Mumbai.

The seminar was in honor of 'The great Concrete specialist - Dr. Adam
Neville', author of book 'Properties of concrete' and 'Concrete Technology'
and many other titles.

On this occasion Dr. Neville was honored in a typical Indian style (By
offering him 'SHAAL & SHRIFAL i.e. coconut'). Dr. Merry Neville (wife of Dr.
A. M. Neville) was dressed in a Sari for the first time in her life, for
this occasion.

Dr. A. M. Neville (now 80years old) shared his views and experiences on
various aspects of concrete - starting from cement, water, aggregates upto
RMC / mechanized concrete etc. During his talk (without using any
transferencies / PowerPoint) he raised many fundamental issues viz. surface
texture of aggregates etc. Further he also clarified that though these
issues are important no institute will benefit much from it in terms of

The day was special for both ACI - India Chapter as well as Dr. A. M.
Neville, because Dr. Neville is celebrating 50th years of his currier
whereas ACI is celebrating 25th anniversary of its founding.

Being a life partner, Dr. Merry Neville shared her experiences with Dr.
Neville. From these experiences it was noticed that for becoming expert in
any profession - the partners must also associate / co-operate you to his
fullest extent. The experiences of Dr. Merry emphasized on - 24 HOURS
dedication to the subject.

At the time of Seminar two books where published. They are as follows :-
1) 'Concrete Primer' - Price - Rs.100/- (in the form of question and
answers)
2) 'Neville On Concrete' - Price - Rs.750/- (this books is collection of Dr.
Neville's articles and his views experiences on Concrete - from different
stand point)

At the venue Dr. Neville signed the copy of many participants who purchased
the book.

It's worth to have these books.

ACI was expecting 600 participants for this seminar, from all over India.
But on 28th the figure crossed 750. At the time of seminar we were under
impression that we will have to return 'BACK TO pavilion' but Dr. Neville
wanted all to come in side the auditorium. Hence one may imagine what must
have being the figure of audience.

Anyway let us wish that such valuable seminar are arranged for the benefit
of Indian Engineers so that they will not feel to 'RUN AWAY FROM CIVIL
ENGINEERING TO SOFTWARE ENGINEERING'

Girder / Launching Truss.
I would be obliged if you can share the case studies with photographs.
