Dear Mr. Kadam,

Your concern for junior people is appreciated. But what do we call
donkeywork? Is there a substitute to hard work if one wants to excel
professionally? Wisdom, intelligence and vision do not come embedded with
degree certificates nor do they ooze out of classroom benches!

Use of "cheap man-power" is a reality even without having PE's around!
Having PE's will in fact solve this if employers take an initiative to
structure training programmes and 'catch them young'. With the system of
licensing in place, there will be a need for structured training programmes
on the job to lead the new generation engineers to achieve the PE status.
这将提高就业市场,迫使organizations to "invest in
people". The serious young engineers will then choose employers based up on
the mentoring and training offered on the job.
If there is a will, the details will emerge as we go ahead with licensing.
I note Arvind's post:
"All training institutions / Educational Institutions are producing good
trained manpower who can manouver through the software but lack the feel of
structure. In
fact they are producing people who only know how to operate the so called
sofisticated softwares. In this case it is must that young engineers should
曾在PE最低一段7是的rs as suggested by Sri P
Srinivasan and should be incarporated in the Draft Engineer's Bill."

Beyond the numbers game and the sophisticated tools, a competent engineer
should possess the following:
* "feel" for structures and a thorough understanding of first principles.
(primary requirements for solutions of complex problems)
* enthusiasm to innovate and improve. (required for continuous learning to
keep in pace with changes in technology and society)
* ability to articulate ideas. (required for communicating effectively as an
engineer and as a responsible member of the society)
These qualities can be developed by working under senior mentors (PE's) with
a training programme structured with predefined objectives. Will this not be
the first step towards reversing the 'brain-drain'?
With regards,
Shailesh

Dear Dr. A R Chandrasekaran

Thanks for joining.

In fact you have a point, but my experience is contrary. All training
institutions / Educational Institutions are producing good trained manpower
who can manouver through the software but lack the feel of structure. In
fact they are producing people who only know how to operate the so called
sofisticated softwares. In this case it is must that young engineers should
曾在PE最低一段7是的rs as suggested by Sri P
Srinivasan and should be incarporated in the Draft Engineer's Bill.

Also my experience is that even M Tech students from very good premier
institutions lack this basic knowledge.

But as you said we should encourage them as they are the furure PEs and we
should do every possible way to keep loosing them to Software Market!

With warm regards.

Arvind
