Dear all,
The CED 54 of the Bureau of Indian Standards is right now undertaking the job of a major revision of IS:1786 - the specification for High Strength Deformed Steel Bars and Wires for Concrete Reinforcement. I take this opportunity to draw the attention of all participants of this august forum to examine the draft document carefully.
My views on the proposed Table 3 are as under
1. The ultimate stress should be at lest 1.25 times yield stress in D category steel.
2. The minimum percentage uniform elongation should be at least 10%. The total percentage elongation should be more than 14.5 percent for Fe 415D grade steel.
3. Fe 550 and Fe 600 grade steel need not be introduced as this will not serve any purpose for their use in earthquake resistant reinforced concrete structures.
The relevant paper on this discussion is sent toadmin@www.buonovino.com for uploading.
