Dear Sefians Just one question If Engineering is no profession in India then why service tax? then why FIRs in case of Fault Design then why imprisionment in case lack of safety measures. then why every year UPSC conduct Indian engineering services exam why sate serive of engineering cadre is there. I think such type of statements should be avoided for the sake of profession we are lowering the image of profession with such type of statements. Daljeet

Engineering is a profession but it has no legal/statutory recognition in India like the medical profession or the architects or the charetered accountants. Why do we have separate Acts of the Parliament for these (and many other) professions ? The answer is simple and obvious. Acts of Parliament impart statutory powers to their Governing Councils to regulate their profession. This is statutory (legal) recognition. THIS RECOGNITION IS NOT AVAILABLE TO ENGINEERING PROFESSION This is what the Engineers Bill is about Let us not confuse this with criminal cases against individuals or firms for which FIRs may be lodged. These have no relevance to the recognition or otherwise of any profession whatsoever. Fellow engineering professional ! Please read the draft Engineers Bill and you will understand why over 20 professional societies have deliberated on the draft of Engineers bill for months and why we are trying to get such a Bill enacted by the Parliament for over 20 years.
