*Four die in building collapse*
VISAKHAPATNAM: Four workers died when the slab of a building which is under construction, collapsed in Sector 6 of Ukkunagaram.
Four others were reportedly buried under the debris and at least eight others were injured. They were admitted to a local private hospital. The condition of some of them is stated to be critical.
According to the police, workers were constructing walls on the first floor of the building when the slab of second floor caved in, bringing down the entire structure. Police and civic authorities rushed to the spot. The debris is being cleared using earth-movers. Most of the victims were daily labourers.

Prima-facie cause of the collapse should be 建议。如何板下降。删除scaffolding before attaining strength or some other cause?.The information should be complete at least on first study

Dear Friends, Incidents like this should shake up our conscience and should make us do introspection and self-improvement...at least in design offices where designs carried out by semi trained design engineers are being sent out for execution, under stress by Clients and due to lack of enough time at hand....the modern day mantra being WE WANTED IT YESTERDAY...This becomes specially important in the light of many softwares (like STAADPRO) not declaring a Beam unsafe in case it fails in deflection, and at times this may become a very critical factor, architects always keep pressing for a reduction in beam depth and create a lot of pressure to reduce structural sizes in general. Besides the quality of scaffolding and its design also becomes very important, especially in large spans. In addition, at every site, a chart for minimum waiting period before removal of scaffolding for each stage should be discussed with the contractor, and prominently displayed (and religiously followed) regards sangeeta wij

Dear sefians,
it is a tragedy that buildings collapse even during construction; not exclusively in our country alone but all over the world (Ref: the note from Er. Hari).
Construction is a job different from that of design and analysis, and calls for specialisation. While analysis and design are taught in engineering schools, barely any attention is accorded to constructional aspects of structures. The result is exclusion of the elite designers from the mundane construction jobs mistry或生毕业生和毕业证书持有人s with predictable consequences.
University curriculum should be updated to include construction (particularly formwork and concreting) aspects as well.
的技术和快速进步 structural systems, a four year degree course appears to be inadequate to impart training in current materials and developments. A five year degree course may be more appropriate these days in view of the extensive research and developments, and accumulation of vast information.

Dear all, I fully agree and endorse the view point of Sangeeta. She has correctly pointed out the ' morden things" and the mantra - We Want it Yesterday!

Dear Sefians In my onion one can remove scaffolding as soon as the work is completed scaffolding in no way holds the structure since it is A platform built against the side of a building for the support of workmen, where as shuttering is responsible for most of such mishaps. Design failure is tested during earthquakes or other shakes. such failures are due to inexperience ness of the site engineers. I remember the failure of the bridge deck slab, in that case whole shuttering was rested angle iron boxes that were directly placed in canal bed, and longitudinal girders were on dry bricks (so that girders can be removed easily). Due to sinking of one support in canal bed, the load crossed the bricks crushing strength the whole shuttering loaded with fresh concrete lost the stability, and sank into flowing water the engineer at top trapped in reinforcement bars and could not survive. Most of the senior engineers dont visit the site(better to say most of the structures are built in the absence of engineers). Safety of workers for us is no priority. Basements are constructed in old building while standing tall. Walls collapse the matter is sorted out with in 30-50 thousand if it is not highlighted. Daljeet
