Dear Sefians,
Please explain the followings:
1) What is the difference in behaviour between shear wall & column?
2) Should we design a column of size 9 inch widthx 48 inch depth in a RC Framed building as a shear wall? or can we design it as column also?
3) what is the limitation of depth & width ratio for designing a column? that is, when should we design it as a shear wall? Is it when the depth exceeds 4 times its width?
4) some handbooks have given charts for designing columns with depth exceeding 4 times its width. Are these charts OK or in reality, they are the charts developed considering as a wall?
Please elaborate the concept.
