Greetings!
Welcome to the third day of the E-conference on 'IS 16700- Criteria 结构的安全性高Concrete Buildings'.
We hope you have had two good days of discussions. We certainly are very encouraged by the quality of queries and responses. Yesterday most of the queries that were posted have been very well responded to by fellow SEFIANS. Seems like SEFI has grown into a solid, curious and enlightened group of structural engineers!
We will be extending discussion on Section 8 today ie Structural Design. And of course, discussions on Sections 1 to 7 can also continue.
best regards,
SEFI Moderators

FRAMED TUBE SYSTEM, TUBE IN TUBE SYSTEM, MULTIPLE TUBE SYSTEM
"8.7.3 Column spacing of framed tube shall preferably be not more than 5 m."
It is well known that the lesser the column spacing, the more is the advantage. If so, why such a guideline, that is too fluid, in this code, such as "preferable" to be less than 5m.
I feel, specific guideline can be given. At least a range.

"NON STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS
10.1 DESIGN STRATEGY
NSEs shall be classified into three types depending on their earthquake behavior, namely 1. Acceleration sensitive NSE 2. Deformation Sensitive NSE 3. Acceleration & Deformation sensitive NSE"
Now a days, it is a trend to have car lifts and bringing cars to higher stories. Definitelythis will increase.
While considering mass of cars, this create a lot of confusion. To me, cars become acceleration sensitive if hand brakes are on along with gear. If it is in neutral gear, what would be its condition? If hand brakes only? In first gear with out hand brakes? How to model this?

"8. STRUCTURAL DESIGN
8.1.2 STAIR CASE"
The code allows to built the staircase integral with the structural system, even if not confined with structural walls, if modeled, analyzed and designed as a structural element.
I feel, this can also be adopted in IS 4326, along with (i) separated staircases, (ii) Built in stair cases & (iii) staircase with sliding joints.
