In a work contract, we have to scrupulously follow the nomenclature of the items. In no case shall we permit the contractor to provide an item that is inferior to the agreement item, unless there is valid reasons for the same. The CPWD DSR has items for both 0.80mm and 0.63mm GS gutters. They shall have a minimum slope of 1 in 120 and be supported on MS Flat brackets of spacing not exceeding 1.20m (flat gutters can also be provided, if the flow is less). Semi-circular type gutters are preferred, may be, in order to maintain minimum depth of flow, when the discharge is low and to offer smooth flow. You compare the capacity of the substituted item with that of the original item and take decision, in case the contractor cannot be directed to bring the original item. Please refer IS 2527 also, for the design and construction aspects of the rain water gutter.
