Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FPE) coating is a process where the epoxy powder is applied by electrostatic spray on hot steel at a pre-set temperature level. This is an irreversible process and provides the protection to reinforced steel bar against corrosion. It prevents the attack of chloride ion on the metallic surface and occurrence of electrochemical reaction initiating the corrosion of steel. Due to these advantages, we can say that the FPE coating is a practical means to prevent corrosion, however, there are restraining factors such as the high costs associated with the coating process. The lack of skilful handling to avoid the peeling of the coating during the cutting, bending process is another factor.
