Hi all,

I am new to this forum. I want to design a steel water tank using AISC standards. From STAAD I have got steel stresses. My doubt is whether we can compare the von mises stress from STAAD and 0.6Fy to derive the plate thickness for the tank. Kindly help this out.

Although there are several other failure theories available but I found von mises stress criterion more closer to the approximation of the results. Even I used it in my research work for the analysis of stress distribution in RC tank.
