This is a sponsored media announcement on SEFI (Advertisement). Interested participants should directly communicate with organisers.
We are conducting a workshop at IIT Gandhinagar that seeks to discuss our work integrating the concepts of structural engineering with those of infrastructure system engineering in the context of power transmission towers. Following 2019 cyclone Fani that hit the coast of Odisha and caused substantial damages to the power transmission network, we at IIT Gandhinagar tried to understand the lattice transmission towers at system as well as individual levels. The system's perspective allowed insights on questions such as how to prioritize the transmission towers in a region for strengthening, and how much strengthening would be cost-effective. The individual tower's perspective involved wind tunnel tests and computational fluid dynamics-based analysis of a delta segment, which is frequently damaged in India. The analysis results were used to evaluate relevant provisions of Indian and international standards.
The system's work got considerable media coverage:The Hindu BusinessLine,Indian Express,Economic Times,NDTV,Telegraph,OdishaTV,Rajasthan Patrika,Telugustop,Divya Bhaskar
To exchange knowledge on the subject, and to develop strategies for further studies we are conducting a workshop at IIT Gandhinagar in the physical mode. Details of the workshop are below.
Title:Resilience of Power and Allied Lifeline Infrastructure Systems Date:September 26 (Monday)
Website:https://events.iitgn.ac.in/2022/infra_resilience/index.html
Registration Link:https://events.iitgn.ac.in/2022/infra_resilience/registration.html(Registration Closes on 20th September 2022)
The first segment of the workshop is dedicated to the general and India-specific talks on infrastructure system resilience. The second segment covers the management of power networks in normal times, and in the aftermath of a cyclone. The third segment of the workshop covers the transmission towers from the point of view of structural and geotechnical engineering. At the end, we will have a panel discussion to review where we stand, and the way forward. Besides our team at IIT Gandhinagar, speakers include engineers from Central Electricity Authority, Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd., Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd., and Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd. Professors Mahesh Tandon and Prem Krishna will also present a talk.
The workshop is sponsored by IIT Gandhinagar. Therefore, there is no fee to attend the workshop。请通过Registrati注册事件on Webpage:https://events.iitgn.ac.in/2022/infra_resilience/registration.html。The last date for registration is September 20th. Please note that participation will be confirmed only after registration is approved by the organizers. The participants will need to make their own travel and boarding/lodging arrangements.
