Dear SEFIANS,

what is the maximum safe height for a 20cm thick laterite/similar wall to be constructed as a partition wall in Framed building? How to increase height without increasing the thickness?

regards

Provide rcc band at Lintel level and ht can be increased.

Generally wall shall be seen for L/t and H/t ,,

Whichever less and to be less than 12

But provision of lintel band the H is lintel ht instead of clr roof ht.

Band to be designed for wind /Eq forces along lateral direction.

Apart from the horizontal band at lintel level suggested by Er.Vikramjeet, you can also use vertical bands, properly anchored at the bottom to increase the allowable height.

As guided by Er Srinivasan saheb, vertical rcc bands can also be provided along with Lintel band . Lintel bands are also a prerequisite for EQ resistant in Brick walls.

Vertical rcc band if provided, even without lintel band will reduce the effective Length of wall, and L/t Or H/t whichever least needed. Rcc band in this case need to be designed for wind/Eq on wall to be transferred to vertical band. The vertical band will span between floors beams at bottom & top.
