Dear Sir/Ma'am,
It is good to see that introduction of a dedicated code for the design of tall buildings in India. This would definitely be a milestone towards the design of safer structures using the latest state of art technologies. I have few queries in the IS 16700, which are listed below.
- Deformationlimit (Section 5.4): The section recommends the use of 50 year return period for the service wind drift limit. I feel this bit conservative. International codes generally considers 10 years return period for the service drift limitation.
- Seismic Drift: The code does not provide any reference to convert the elastic displacement to the maximum inelastic response displacement. Does it mean thatwhatever displacement is obtained for the seismic load combination shall be used for checking the drift limitation?
Would appreciate your clarification on the above queries.
Thank you Regards Kiran
