Dear All:
BIS has released draft revised code of IS 13935 "Seismic Evaluation, Repair and Strengthening of Masonry Buildings- Guidelines" for wide circulation.
The document may be downloaded from foll address:

It would be nice if we could deliberate extensively on this code and send our comments to CED 39. The code assumes significance in the background reality of majority of existing stock of buildings in our country being in load bearing masonry, especially in areas of high seismic hazard. We have seen the level of damage and loss of lives in Latur 1993, Bhuj 2001 and Kashmir 2005 earthquakes.
IS 13935 code governs the retrofit procedures for such buildings. Please do take the time to download and read through the code. Now is the time for all of us to be heard and to participate/comment in code-making exercise in India.
