Early Heat of Hydration

Dear friends
We have a raft of thickness ranging from 1.1m to 2.0m for a project and the
steel reqd normally is in the range of 16[AT]150... .However, if we check for min
steel reqd to withstand the early heat of hydration, using the Relevant BS
Code formula, we need atleast 16[AT]80c.../c.I can give more details if it is
required to explain my problem further.
Pl let me know if there is an admixture which can reduce the early heat of
hydration so that we dont need to double the steel provided
will really appreciate an early response

Dear Sangeeta ji

I think the PPC cements have comparative low heat of hydration. Grasim Cements claims its Grasim Super as low heat of hydration cement. For admixtures you will have to be very careful, its use should be in strict supervision slight dose variations has unexpected results.

Dear Sangeeta,

For construction of Narmada dam, for thick and massive concrete sections, ice was used instead of water in cocrete batching plant. Logic was to compensate the heat of hydration by lower temperature of the ice.

I think this can work for your problem too.

If the placing temeprature of concrete shall be around 25 deg which can take
care early heat of hydration.
